## Abstract

As described herein, Mrap2 negatively regulates weight gain in animals. Accordingly, provided herein are cells, animals, and methods relating to the inhibition of Mrap2 to increase the rate of growth in cells and/or animals, e.g. animals comprising Mrap2 modifications to improve production of animal products.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A non-human mammalian cell comprising a modification of the Mrap2 gene, wherein the cell does not express a detectable level of functional Mrap2.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The cell of claim 1, wherein the modification comprises a deletion of the Mrap2 coding sequence, a deletion of exon 3 of the Mrap2 gene, a deletion of the transmembrane domain of Mrap 2, or a deletion of the intracellular domain of Mrap 2.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The cell of claim 1, wherein the modification comprises a mutation of at least one amino acid within SEQ ID NO. 1.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The cell of claim 1, wherein the cell is heterozygous for the modification.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The cell of claim 1, wherein the cell is homozygous for the modification.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The cell of claim 1, wherein the non-human mammalian cell is of a species selected from the group consisting of:
pig; cow; sheep; rabbit; and goat.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The cell of claim 1, wherein the modification is produced by the action of a CRISPR, TALENs, or ZFN nuclease.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The cell of claim 1, wherein the modification is produced by the action of a recombinase.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The cell of claim 8, wherein the recombinase is cre recombinase.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The cell of claim 9, wherein the recombinase is under the control of a tissue-specific promoter.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The cell of claim 10, wherein the promoter is specific for neurons or brain tissue.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The cell of claim 11, wherein the promoter is a Sim1 promoter.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

A non-human mammal comprising the cell of claim 1.

### Claim 14

A knockout non-human mammal, comprising a modification of the Mrap2 gene, wherein the mammal does not express a detectable level of functional Mrap2.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The mammal of claim 14, wherein the modification comprises a deletion of the Mrap2 coding sequence, a deletion of exon 3 of the Mrap2 gene, a deletion of the transmembrane domain of Mrap 2, or a deletion of the intracellular domain of Mrap 2.

### Claim 16 (depends on 14)

The mammal of claim 14, wherein the modification comprises a mutation of at least one amino acid within SEQ ID NO. 1.

### Claim 17 (depends on 14)

The mammal of claim 14, wherein the mammal is heterozygous for the modification.

### Claim 18 (depends on 14)

The mammal of claim 14, wherein the mammal is homozygous for the modification.

### Claim 19 (depends on 14)

The mammal of claim 14, wherein the non-human mammal is of a species selected from the group consisting of:
pig, cow, sheep, rabbit, and goat.

### Claim 20 (depends on 14)

A method of producing a mammal for use of the carcass, the method comprising:
providing species-appropriate food to a mammal of claim 14;
butchering the mammal when it reaches the desired size for use.
