Abstract
Provided herein is a battery cell of a battery pack to power an electric vehicle. The battery cell can include a housing having a body region and a head region. The housing can define an inner region. The head region can include an indentation. An electrolyte can be disposed within the inner region of the housing. A lid can include a positive lid portion, a negative lid portion, and a first isolation layer between the positive lid portion and the negative lid portion. The negative lid portion can include a crimped edge. The crimped edge can couple with the indentation of the head region of the housing.
Claims20
A battery cell of a battery pack to power an electric vehicle, the battery cell comprising:
- a housing having a body region and a head region, the housing defining an inner region;
- the head region having an indentation;
- an electrolyte disposed within the inner region of the housing;
- a lid that includes a positive lid portion, a negative lid portion, and a first isolation layer between the positive lid portion and the negative lid portion;
- and
- the negative lid portion includes a crimped edge, and the crimped edge coupled with the indentation of the head region of the housing.
The battery cell of clam 1, comprising:
- a positive tab that electrically couples the positive lid portion of the lid with a positive region of the electrolyte.
The battery cell of clam 1, comprising:
- a negative tab that electrically couples the negative lid portion of the lid with a negative region of the electrolyte.
A method of providing electrical power via a battery cell of a battery pack to power an electric vehicle, the method comprising:
- providing a battery pack having a battery cell, the battery cell including a housing having a body region and a head region, the housing defining an inner region, the head region having an indentation;
- disposing an electrolyte within the inner region of the housing;
- disposing a lid proximate to the head region of the housing, the lid having a positive lid portion, a negative lid portion, and a first isolation layer between the positive lid portion and the negative lid portion;
- and
- crimping the negative lid portion of the lid with the indentation of the head region of the housing to seal the battery cell.
An electric vehicle, comprising:
- a battery cell of a battery pack to power an electric vehicle comprising, the battery cell comprising:
- a housing having a body region and a head region, the housing defining an inner region;
- the head region having an indentation;
- an electrolyte disposed within the inner region of the housing;
- a lid that includes a positive lid portion, a negative lid portion, and a first isolation layer between the positive lid portion and the negative lid portion;
- and
- the negative lid portion includes a crimped edge, and the crimped edge coupled with the indentation of the head region of the housing.
