Apparatuses, systems, and methods for displaying mixed bit-depth images

A system comprising:

• a display device comprising an integral display that is configured to display mixed bit-depth images to a user;
• a driver element that generates bit-depth assignment data that specifies differing bit depths for corresponding display regions of the integral display;
• a reception element, communicatively coupled to the display device, that receives the bit-depth assignment data;
• and
• a configuration element, communicatively coupled to the display device and the reception element, that configures, based at least in part on the bit-depth assignment data, the integral display to display image data at the differing bit depths within the corresponding display regions of the integral display, thereby causing the display device to:
• consume a lower proportion of image data to drive a display region of the integral display configured to display image data at a lower bit depth;
• and
• maintain higher image quality within a display region of the integral display configured to display image data at a higher bit depth;
• and
• reconfigures the integral display in response to receiving updated bit-depth assignment data.

A method comprising:

• coupling, to a display element that is configured to display mixed bit-depth images, a reception element that is configured to receive bit-depth assignment data that specifies differing bit depths for corresponding display regions of the display element;
• establishing a communicative connection between the reception element and a driver element that generates the bit-depth assignment data by configuring differing bit depths for corresponding regions of the mixed bit-depth images;
• coupling the display element and the reception element to a configuration element that:
• configures, based at least in part on the bit-depth assignment data, the display element to display the mixed bit-depth images according to an arrangement of regions specified by the bit-depth assignment data;
• and
• reconfigures, based at least in part on the reception element receiving updated bit-depth assignment data from the driver element, the display element to display the mixed bit-depth images according to an updated arrangement of regions specified by the updated bit-depth assignment data.
