Controlling image display via mapping of pixel values to pixels

A method comprising:

• receiving, by one or more configured hardware circuits, data that includes a plurality of pixel values for use in controlling display of pixels in a display panel to display an image;
• determining, for a primary display region of the display panel having a first subset of the pixels and being associated with a 1-to-1 mapping of pixel values-to-pixels, first pixel values of the plurality that are for use in controlling display of the pixels of the first subset and that are equal in quantity to the pixels of the first subset;
• determining, for at least one secondary display region of the display panel having at least one second subset of the pixels and being associated with at least one 1-to-multiple mapping of pixel values-to-pixels, second pixel values of the plurality that are for use in controlling display of the pixels of the at least one second subset and that are less in quantity than the pixels of the at least one second subset;
• and
• initiating, by the one or more configured hardware circuits, display of the image on the display panel using the 1-to-1 mapping for the primary display region and the at least one 1-to-multiple mapping for the at least one secondary display region, including to use each of the determined first pixel values to control display of one of the pixels of the first subset for the primary display region, and to use each of the determined second pixel values to control display of multiple of the pixels of the at least one second subset for the at least one secondary display region.

A system, comprising:

• a display panel with multiple pixels;
• and
• one or more hardware circuits configured to cause the system to perform automated operations that include at least:
• receiving data that includes a plurality of pixel values for use in controlling display of the multiple pixels in the display panel to display an image;
• determining, for a primary display region of the display panel having a first subset of the multiple pixels and being associated with a first mapping of pixel values-to-pixels, first pixel values of the plurality that are for use in controlling display of the pixels of the first subset;
• determining, for at least one secondary display region of the display panel having at least one second subset of the multiple pixels and being associated with at least one second mapping of pixel values-to-pixels that is different from the first mapping, second pixel values of the plurality that are for use in controlling display of the pixels of the at least one second subset and that are less in quantity than the pixels of the at least one second subset;
• and
• initiating display of the image on the display panel using the first mapping for the primary display region and the at least one second mapping for the at least one secondary display region, including to use each of the determined first pixel values to control display of at least one of the pixels of the first subset for the primary display region, and to use the determined second pixel values to control display of the pixels of the at least one second subset for the at least one secondary display region.
