Abstract
The present invention relates to a gaming system and to a method of gaming. A game is played by displaying a representation of selection of a plurality of symbols from a set of symbols. The game enables selection of at least one additional symbol in addition to those originally selected, to increase the number of symbol combinations available for assessing a game outcome. In an example, the additional symbol is displayed as being mounted on a substrate which is “flipped” to reveal the additional symbol. Another face of this substrate mounts the originally selected symbol. A plurality of additional symbols may be available for selection.

1-36. (canceled)
An electronic gaming machine comprising:
- a display device configured to display a matrix of rows and columns;
- a processor configured to execute instructions stored in a memory, which when executed, cause the processor to at least:
- determine a wager amount;
- provide a number of symbol flips to a player of the electronic gaming machine based upon the wager amount;
- display a plurality of symbols in the matrix, each symbol capable of rotation about a symbol axis;
- receive a player selection of at least one symbol of the plurality of displayed symbols, wherein the player is allowed to select any number of symbols less than or equal to the number of symbol flips provided to the player;
- determine at least one additional symbol to replace the at least one player selected symbol in response to receiving the player selection;
- flip the at least one player selected symbol about its symbol axis to display the at least one additional symbol in the matrix in place of the at least one player selected symbol;
- evaluate the plurality of symbols displayed in the matrix, including the at least one additional symbol;
- and
- determine, based upon the evaluation, whether to provide a game award.
A method of rotating symbols as part of a wagering game played on an electronic gaming machine, the electronic gaming machine comprising a display device configured to display a matrix of rows and columns, a player input interface, a processor, and a credit input mechanism configured to establish a credit balance that is used to place a wager for play of the wagering game, the method comprising:
- determining, by the processor, a wager amount;
- providing, by the processor, a number of symbol rotations to a player of the electronic gaming machine based upon and corresponding to the wager amount;
- displaying, by the processor, a plurality of symbols in the matrix, each symbol capable of rotation about a symbol axis;
- receiving, by the processor, a player selection of at least one symbol of the plurality of symbols, wherein the player is allowed to select any number of symbols less than or equal to the number of symbol rotations provided to the player;
- determining, by the processor, at least one additional symbol to replace the player selected at least one symbol in response to receiving the player selection, wherein, if the player selects greater than the at least one symbol, a corresponding number of additional symbols are determined;
- rotating, by the processor, the player selected at least one symbol about its symbol axis to display the at least one additional symbol in the matrix in place of the player selected at least one symbol;
- evaluating, by the processor, the plurality of symbols displayed in the matrix, including the at least one additional symbol;
- and
- determining, by the processor and based upon the evaluation, whether to provide a game award.
An article of manufacture comprising a tangible, non-transitory, computer-readable memory storing instructions, which when executed by a processor, cause the processor to at least:
- determine a wager amount;
- provide a number of symbol changes to a player of the electronic gaming machine based upon the wager amount;
- display a plurality of symbols in the matrix, each symbol capable of changing;
- receive a player selection of at least one symbol of the plurality of symbols, wherein the player is allowed to select any number of symbols less than or equal to the number of symbol changes provided to the player;
- determine at least one additional symbol to replace the player selected at least one symbol in response to receiving the player selection, wherein, if the player selects greater than the at least one symbol, a corresponding number of additional symbols are determined;
- change the player selected at least one symbol to display the at least one additional symbol in the matrix in place of the player selected at least one symbol;
- evaluate the plurality of symbols displayed in the matrix, including the at least one additional symbol;
- and
- determine, based upon the evaluation, whether to provide a game award.
