Abstract
An apparatus to initialize a port includes a first input-output port to connect to a first device and a control unit to initialize all input-output ports of the apparatus when the apparatus is booted and to skip a power-on self-test (POST) of the first input-output port in response to a request to skip initialization of the first input-output port while the first input-output port is enabled.
Claims15
A device, comprising:
- a first input-output port to connect to a specific device;
- a control unit to initialize a second input-output port of the specific device, wherein initializing the second input-output port includes performing a power-on self-test (POST) in a firmware layer of the device;
- and
- initialize an operating system when the second input-output port is initialized.

An apparatus to initialize a port, comprising:
- an input-output port to connect to a device;
- and
- a control unit to initialize the input-output port of the apparatus when the apparatus is booted and to skip a power-on self-test (POST) of the input-output port in response to a request to skip initialization of the input-output port while the input-output port is enabled, wherein the request to skip initialization of the input-output port is received from a firmware layer of the apparatus connected to the input-output port.
A method, comprising:
- powering a plurality of input-output ports of a first device in response to a hard boot;
- determining when a second device is coupled to a first input-output port of the first device;
- skipping initialization of the first input-output port when the first device is determined to be coupled to the first the input-output port, wherein instructions to skip initialization is received from a Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) layer of the electronic device;
- initializing a second input-output port of the first device, wherein initializing the second input-output port includes performing a power-on self-test (POST) in the BIOS layer of the first device;
- and
- initializing an operating system when the second input-output port is initialized and the first input-output port skipped initialization.
