Abstract
Methods of administering methyldopa to a subject in a fasting state to increase bioavailability of the methyldopa.

A method of enhancing the bioavailability of methyldopa in a subject comprising fasting the subject for at least one hour immediately prior to administering to the subject an oral D-α-methyldopa dosage formulation, and for at least another 2 hours immediately after administering the oral D-α-methyldopa dosage formulation.
