Abstract
This invention provides an effective method and a composition for treating neurodegenerative diseases and conditions of the central and peripheral nervous system by stimulating neurogenesis by the use isoxylitones or an isomer, acid analog, a salt or a solvate, thereof.
Claims3
1-4. (canceled)
A method for differentiating and proliferating cortical cells, hippocampal cells, or neural progenitor cells by exposing a population of these cells to an effective concentration of a isoxylitones (E/Z)-(1-(3,5,5-trimethylcyclohex-2-enylidene)propan-2-one or an isomer, an acid analog, a salt, or a solvate thereof, wherein a plurality of the cells differentiate and express one or more cortical neuron precursor markers.
The method of claim 1, wherein isoxylitones (E/Z)-(1-(3,5,5-trimethylcyclohex-2-enylidene)propan-2-one or an isomer, an acid analog, a salt, or a solvate thereof, causes differentiation and proliferation by activating transcription genes NeuroD1 and Neurogenin (Ngn).
