Single or dual technology animal tags and system and method of using the same

A tag system for tracking information about an animal, comprising:

• a collar having a first end and a second;
• a closure mechanism for the collar, the closure mechanism comprising a buckle and one or more receptacles, the buckle having a projecting member, the buckle being coupled to the first end of the collar, the second end of the collar comprising the one or more receptacles for receiving the projecting member;
• a near-field-communication (NFC) tag positioned between the first end and second end of the collar, the NFC tag comprising a housing and an electronic chip and antenna contained within the housing;
• and
• a fastener for coupling the NFC tag to the collar.

A tag system for tracking information about an animal, comprising:

• a collar having a first end and a second;
• a closure mechanism for joining the first and second end of the collar, the closure mechanism having a projecting member, the projecting member being coupled to the first end of the collar, the second end of the collar comprising one or more receptacles for receiving the projecting member;
• a near-field-communication (NFC) tag positioned between the first end and second end of the collar, the NFC tag comprising a housing and an electronic chip and antenna contained within the housing, the electronic chip comprising a memory device;
• and
• a fastener for coupling the NFC tag to the collar.
