Abstract
The present invention provides a palladium(II) complex of formula (1) or a palladium(II) complex of formula (2). R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, R8, R9, R10, R11, R12, R18, R19, R20, R21, R22, R23 and R24, m, E and X are described in the specification. The invention also provides a process for the preparation of the complexes, and their use in carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom coupling reactions.

A palladium complex of formula (2):
- wherein:
- R18 and R19 are, independently, —Me, —Et, —nPr, —iPr, —nBu, —iBu, cyclohexyl, or cycloheptyl;
- R12 is an organic group having 1-20 carbon atoms;
- R20, R21, R22, R23 and R24 are, independently, —H or an organic group having 1-20 carbon atoms;
- or
- one or both of R20/R21 or R22/R23, independently, form a ring structure with the atoms to which they are attached;
- m is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5;
- and
- X is a coordinating anionic ligand.

A process for preparing a complex of formula (2):
- wherein:
- R12 is an organic group having 1-20 carbon atoms;
- R18 and R19 are, independently, —Me, —Et, —nPr, —iPr, —nBu, —iBu, cyclohexyl, or cycloheptyl;
- R20, R21, R22, R23 and R24 are, independently, —H or an organic group having 1-20 carbon atoms;
- or
- one or both pairs that are R20/R21 or R22/R23 independently form a ring structure with the atoms to which they are attached;
- m is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5;
- and
- X is a coordinating anionic ligand;
- the process comprising reacting a complex of formula (3) with a monodentate bi-heteroaryl tertiary phosphine ligand of formula (5) to form the complex of formula (2):
