Abstract
This invention relates to a process of manufacturing cucurbituril and/or one or more derivatives thereof with low formaldehyde content and to the use of said cucurbituril and/or one or more derivatives thereof, in particular in consumer and industrial products, and in industrial processes.

A process for the preparation of cucurbituril and/or one or more derivatives thereof comprising mixing glycoluril with a methylene bridging agent, in the presence of an acid and in the absence of any formaldehyde, or formaldehyde precursor, wherein the glycoluril is selected from the group consisting of unsubstituted glycoluril, alkoxy-methylated glycoluril, glycoluril derivatives, and mixtures thereof.
