A method for the treatment or prevention of a chronic inflammatory bowel disease in a mammal, the method comprising administering to said mammal an effective amount of a composition comprising a Nucleoside triphosphate diphosphohydrolase (NTPDase) enzyme, wherein the enzyme is selected from the group consisting of:
- NTPDase3 and NTPDase8.
