A method of preparing a pharmaceutical exosome composition, the method comprising culturing mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in serum-free medium to generate MSC-conditioned serum-free medium, and isolating exosomes from the conditioned medium, whereby a pharmaceutical exosome composition is prepared that lacks non-MSC-derived exosomes.
