Abstract
An intra-cardiac mapping system is based on locating the ports through which blood flows in or out the heart chambers. For many procedures, such as ablation to cure atrial fibrillation, locating the pulmonary veins and the mitral valve accurately allows to perform a Maze procedure. The location of the ports and valves is based on using the convective cooling effect of the blood flow. The mapping can be performed by a catheter-deployed expandable net or a scanning catheter. The same net or catheter can also perform the ablation procedure.
Claims23
(canceled)
A medical system comprising:
- a catheter comprising:
- a plurality of resistive elements located on a distal end portion of the catheter, the plurality of resistive elements electrically connected serially to one another, each resistive element of the plurality of resistive elements configured to raise a temperature of the resistive element in response to passage of electrical current through the resistive element;
- a first pair of leads electrically connected to a first resistive element of the plurality of resistive elements to facilitate sensing of a voltage drop across the first resistive element in response to passage of electrical current through the first resistive element;
- and
- a second pair of leads electrically connected to a second resistive element of the plurality of resistive elements to facilitate sensing of a voltage drop across the second resistive element in response to passage of electrical current through the second resistive element,
- wherein the first pair of leads and the second pair of leads share a same lead, and
- wherein the first resistive element and the second resistive element are electrically connected in series adjacent one another.
