Abstract
The present invention relates to medical fluid treatments, such as the treatment of renal failure. More specifically, the present invention relates to the testing of such systems.

A method for detecting a failure in a system for providing a medical treatment to a patient, the system including a fluid pathway in removable fluidic communication with the patient, the system configured to infuse or to remove a fluid to or from the patient via the fluid pathway, the method comprising the steps of:
- blocking the fluidic communication between the patient and the fluid pathway after the medical treatment is completed;
- and
- performing a test to detect a failure, the test including a checking a feature of the fluid pathway or an element interacting with the fluid pathway.
A test method for automatically testing and monitoring a coupling, the test method being performed by a medical system, the medical system including
- a pump, a sensor, an electronic processor, and a cassette that includes a dedicated area and a fluid pathway, the dedicated area configured to removably couple to the sensor and to be in operative connection with the sensor to monitor a pressure in the fluid pathway, a fluid is conveyed by the pump through the fluid pathway, wherein the test method is performed to monitor the coupling between the sensor and the dedicated area,
- wherein the test method comprises the steps of:
- actuating the pump;
- monitoring the pressure measured by the sensor;
- and
- checking the coupling between the sensor and the dedicated area based on the measured pressure.
