Abstract
The present invention provides a composition of nanoparticles comprising a biological mimetic base component that forms the structure of the nanoparticle. By interacting with the functional groups of the base component, the half-life of a bioactive molecule is extended.
Claims20
A nanoparticle composition, comprising:
- a plurality of nanoparticles including a base component that forms the structure of each nanoparticle and an external binding subcomponent configured to bond with a bioactive molecule, wherein the base component mimics a macromolecule of an animal extracellular matrix;
- a bioactive molecule that bonds to the external binding subcomponent and is stabilized by the presence of the nanoparticle.
A method for making a nanoparticle composition, comprising:
- forming a precursor solution, the precursor solution including an inverse emulsion, the inverse emulsion including a base component, an external binding component, and a crosslinker, wherein at least a portion of the base component mimics a macromolecule of the extracellular matrix of an animal;
- forming nanoparticles from the inverse emulsion;
- and
- binding a bioactive molecule to the nanoparticles.
