Abstract
A data structure is disclosed that maintains a continuously growing list of records, or blocks, in a blockchain format. The data structure may be distributed using peer-to-peer and cryptographic techniques. The data of each record is resistant to modification in that once recorded the data may not be altered retroactively. The data structure serves as a public ledger for all transactions and may be managed autonomously.
Claims20
A method of providing secure communications, comprising:
- writing into a first block associated with a distributed ledger at least one sequence of characters representative of a message, the distributed ledger having at least one second block, further comprising at least one credential;
- sending the distributed ledger to one or more communication devices through at least one network;
- authenticating, by one of the plurality of network nodes resident on the at least one network, the at least one credential;
- writing into the distributed ledger at least one indication indicative of the authenticating;
- and
- displaying the message and the at least one indication on the one or more communication devices.

A system for providing secure communications in a computer network, comprising:
- a distributed ledger comprising two or more blocks thereby creating a blockchain;
- a plurality of communication devices in the computer network configured to maintain the distributed ledger;
- and
- a plurality of messages stored within at least one of the two or more blocks.
