A light-sensor array system for sensing a multiple-color image without the use of visible-band wavelength-selective optical elements, the light-sensor array system comprising:
- a light-sensor array comprising a plurality of visible-band light-sensing pixel elements, each visible-band light-sensing pixel element comprising a plurality of wavelength-selective light-sensing opto-electronic elements having a light-sensing region and configured to produce wavelength-selective electrical responses to a particular range of wavelengths of visible-band light incident on the light-sensing region, each of wavelength-selective light-sensing opto-electronic elements having a different wavelength-selective electrical response characteristic from the other wavelength-selective light-sensing opto-electronic elements, the wavelength-selective response not resulting from wavelength-selective optical elements and configured to produce an electrical output responsive to an associated range of visible-band wavelengths,
- signal processing responsive to the electrical output produced by each of the plurality of visible-band light-sensing pixel elements, the signal processing producing outgoing measurement signals corresponding to visible-band wavelength components incident on light-sensing regions of the light sensor array,
- wherein the light-sensor array system is selectively responsive to visible-band light incident on the light-sensing region of each visible-band light-sensing pixel element.
