Abstract
A memory system includes a volatile first storing unit, a nonvolatile second storing unit in which data is managed in a predetermined unit, and a controller that writes data requested by a host apparatus in the second storing unit via the first storing unit and reads out data requested by the host apparatus from the second storing unit to the first storing unit and transfers the data to the host apparatus. The controller includes a management table for managing the number of failure areas in a predetermined unit that occur in the second storing unit and switches, according to the number of failure areas, an operation mode in writing data in the second storing unit from the host apparatus.

A memory system comprising:
- a nonvolatile memory including a plurality of blocks;
- and
- a controller configured to:
- refer to a number of free blocks in the nonvolatile memory;
- determine whether or not the memory system is changed to a read only mode on the basis of the number of free blocks;
- generate free blocks by controlling the nonvolatile memory;
- and
- store a value that indicates the number of free blocks in the nonvolatile memory;
- wherein,
- in a case where the controller determines that the memory system is changed to a read only mode, a data write operation to all of the plurality of blocks in the nonvolatile memory becomes prohibited, and
- in a case where the data write operation to all of the plurality of blocks in the nonvolatile memory becomes prohibited as a result of the memory system is changed to a read only mode, the data write operation to all of the plurality of blocks in the nonvolatile memory will continue to be prohibited even after an external power supply is restarted and the memory system is turned on again.
A memory system comprising:
- a nonvolatile memory including a plurality of blocks;
- and
- a controller configured to:
- issue warning information based on a usage status of the nonvolatile memory;
- generate free blocks by controlling the nonvolatile memory;
- and
- store a value that indicates a number of free blocks available in the nonvolatile memory;
- wherein,
- in a case where the controller determines that the memory system is changed to a read only mode, a data write operation to all of the plurality of blocks in the nonvolatile memory becomes prohibited, and
- in a case where the data write operation to all of the plurality of blocks in the nonvolatile memory becomes prohibited as a result of the memory system is changed to a read only mode, a data write operation mode for all of the plurality of blocks in the nonvolatile memory is changed to a prohibiting mode after the memory system is restarted.
A memory system comprising:
- a nonvolatile memory including a plurality of blocks;
- and
- a controller configured to:
- refer to a number of free blocks in the nonvolatile memory;
- determine whether or not the memory system is changed to a read only mode on the basis of the number of free blocks;
- generate free blocks by controlling the nonvolatile memory;
- and
- store a value that indicates the number of free blocks in the nonvolatile memory;
- wherein,
- in a case where the controller determines that the memory system is changed to a read only mode, a data write operation mode for all of the plurality of blocks in the nonvolatile memory is changed, and
- in a case where a data write operation to all of the plurality of blocks in the nonvolatile memory becomes prohibited as a result of the memory system is changed to a read only mode, the data write operation mode for all of the plurality of blocks in the nonvolatile memory is changed after an external power supply is restarted and the memory system is turned on again.
A memory system comprising:

- and
- a controller configured to:
- refer to a number of free blocks in the nonvolatile memory;
- determine whether or not the memory system is changed to a read only mode on the basis of the number of free blocks;
- generate free blocks by controlling the nonvolatile memory;
- and
- store a value that indicates the number of free blocks in the nonvolatile memory;
- wherein,
- in a case where the controller determines that the memory system is changed to a read only mode, a data write operation mode for all of the plurality of blocks in the nonvolatile memory is changed to a read only mode, and,
- in a case where the data write operation mode for all of the plurality of blocks in the nonvolatile memory becomes the read only mode, the controller processes in the read only mode when a power supply is turned on after the data write operation mode has been changed to the read only mode.
A memory system comprising:
- a nonvolatile memory in which data is erased in units of block;
- and
- a controller configured to:
- generate free blocks by controlling the nonvolatile memory;
- and
- store a value that indicates a number of free blocks available in the nonvolatile memory;
- wherein,
- in a case where a data write operation mode for all of the blocks in the nonvolatile memory becomes a read only mode, the controller processes in the read only mode when a power supply is turned on after the data write operation mode for all of the blocks in the nonvolatile memory has been changed to the read only mode.
