An article of manufacture comprising, in combination, biomarker synuclein beta (SNCB), antigenic fragments thereof, or citrullinated or post-translationally modified forms thereof, and at least one of biomarkers glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), neurogranin (NRGN) and brain derived neurotropic factor (BDNF), antigenic fragments thereof, or citrullinated or post-translationally modified forms thereof.
A method of detecting protein markers in a subject having, recovering from, or suspected of recovering from brain injury, the method comprising:
- (a) contacting a sample obtained from the subject with biomarkers which comprise, in combination, synuclein beta (SNCB), antigenic fragments thereof, or citrullinated or post-translationally modified forms thereof, and at least one of biomarkers glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), neurogranin (NRGN) and brain derived neurotropic factor (BDNF), antigenic fragments thereof, or citrullinated or post-translationally modified forms thereof;
- and
- (b) measuring the levels of the biomarkers in the subject's sample compared with predefined levels of the same biomarkers in a control sample using a detecting assay, wherein the control sample is at least one of a sample obtained from a healthy subject without brain injury or having recovered from brain injury;
- a baseline sample from the subject of step (a);
- or a stored data set obtained from healthy subjects without brain injury or from subjects having recovered from brain injury.
