Abstract
A single disposable cartridge for performing a process on a particle, such as particle sorting, encapsulates all fluid contact surfaces in the cartridge for use with microfluidic particle processing technology. The cartridge interfaces with an operating system for effecting particle processing. The encapsulation of the fluid contact surfaces insures, improves or promotes operator isolation and/or product isolation. The cartridge may employ any suitable technique for processing particles.
Claims1
A particle processing system, comprising:
- a unitary cartridge including one or more fluid chambers, each of the fluid chambers including one or more fluid contact surfaces,
- the cartridge further including a particle processing component having one or more microchannels, wherein the one or more fluid chambers are in fluid communication with the one or more microchannels of the particle processing component to provide the fluid to and to receive the fluid from the particle processing component,
- wherein the particle processing component is configured to receive a light beam into the one or more microchannels to detect individual particles flowing through the one or more microchannels, and
- wherein fluid contact surfaces for a particle processing operation are encapsulated and sealed within the cartridge from an exterior environment during the particle processing operation.
