Abstract
A water management system is provided. The system includes a manifold with ports adapted to connect the manifold to piping that connects to various water fixtures in a home or building. Each port has a flow sensor and an actuated valve configured to shut off flow to a fixture in the event of a leak in order to mitigate damage from the leak. Water flow occurring due to a leak may be detected and mitigated based on input provided by the flow sensor and a motion sensor, a button switch, or a timer switch.
Claims20
1) A water management system for interconnection between a water source and a plurality of fixtures, the system comprising:
- a manifold having an inlet adapted to receive water from the water source and a plurality of ports for supplying water from the manifold to the plurality of fixtures, each port of the plurality of ports having an actuated valve for regulating water flow from an interior of the manifold to the port to which the actuated valve corresponds, the actuated valve of each port being operably connected to at least one of a switch and one or more sensors, wherein the actuated valve of each port is adapted to transition to a closed configuration based on input provided by the at least one of a switch and one or more sensors.
16) A water management system for interconnection between a water source and a plurality of fixtures, the system comprising:
- a manifold having an inlet securable to the water source, a first set of ports, a second set of ports, a third set of ports, a first set of actuated valves for regulating water flow from an interior of the manifold to the first set of ports, a second set of actuated valves for regulating water flow from the interior to the second set of ports, and a third set of actuated valves for regulating water flow from the interior to the third set of ports, wherein each actuated valve within the first set of actuated valves corresponds to a port within the first set of ports and is operably connected to and adapted to transition to a closed configuration based on input from a first sensor and a second sensor, wherein each actuated valve within the second set of actuated valves corresponds to a port within the second set of ports and is operably connected to and adapted to transition to a closed configuration based on input from a third sensor and a first switch, and wherein each actuated valve within the third set of actuated valves corresponds to a port within the third set of ports and is operably connected to and adapted to transition to a closed configuration based on input from a fourth sensor and a second switch.
17) The system of claim 17, wherein the first sensor, the third sensor, and the fourth sensor each comprise a water flow sensor, the second sensor comprises a motion sensor, the first switch comprises a button switch, and the second switch comprises a timer switch.
20) A method of managing water supply from a water source to a plurality of fixtures, the method comprising the steps of:
- interconnecting a manifold between the water source and the plurality of fixtures, the manifold having an inlet adapted to receive water from the water source and a plurality of ports for supplying water from the manifold to the plurality of fixtures, each port of the plurality of ports having an actuated valve for regulating water flow from an interior of the manifold to the port to which the actuated valve corresponds;
- and
- operably connecting the actuated valve of each port to at least one of a switch and one or more sensors based on whether the port to which the actuated valve corresponds is connected to a manually operated indoor fixture, a manually operated outdoor fixture, or a fixture operating on a cycle, wherein the actuated valve of each port is adapted to transition to a closed configuration based on input provided by the at least one of a switch and one or more sensors.
