Abstract

To provide a compound having an effect of preventing photodegradation of a liquid crystal composition and high solubility in a liquid crystal composition, a liquid crystal composition containing the compound, and a liquid crystal display element containing the composition. There are provided a compound represented by M(Z-Q)m, a liquid crystal composition containing the compound, and a liquid crystal display element using the composition. Here, m is 3, 4, or 5; M is a trivalent, tetravalent, or pentavalent cyclic group, an organic group, or a group constituted by trivalent nitrogen; Z is a single bond, —O—, —COO—, or —OCO—; and Q is a monovalent group represented by Formula (Q-1): in Formula (Q-1), Ra is a hydrogen atom, —O—, —OII, an alkyl group, or an alkenyl group, a terminal group (—CH3) is optionally substituted with —NIIR2 or —NR3R4, and here R3 and R4 are an alkyl group.

A compound represented by Formula (1):

M(Z-Q)m (1)
in Formula (1), M is one selected from among a nitrogen atom, a trivalent cyclic organic group, a tetravalent cyclic organic group, and a pentavalent cyclic organic group;
Z is a single bond, —O—, —COO—, or —OCO—;
Q is a monovalent group represented by Formula (Q-1), and m is 3, 4 or 5,
in Formula (Q-1), Ra is a hydrogen atom, —O—, —OH, or —R1, and here R1 is an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms or an alkenyl group having 2 to 20 carbon atoms, and in this alkyl or alkenyl group, at least one —CH2— is optionally substituted with —O—, —CO—, —COO—, or —OCO—, a terminal group (—CH3) is optionally substituted with —NHR2 or —NR3R4, and here R2, R3, and R4 are an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms.
