Abstract
Disclosed is a composition and use thereof for the recovery of hydrocarbon fluids from a subterranean reservoir. More particularly, this invention concerns sulfonated epoxy resin polymers comprising an epoxide-containing compound, a primary amino sulfonate, and optionally one or more of a primary monoamine alkylene oxide oligomer, that modify the permeability of subterranean formations and increase the mobilization and/or recovery rate of hydrocarbon fluids present in the formations.
Claims10
A composition comprising a the reaction products of:
- (i) epoxide-containing compound having an average of more than one epoxide group per molecule,
- (ii) a primary amino sulfonate,
- (iii) optionally a primary monoamine alkylene oxide oligomer,
- and
- (iv) optionally a primary monoamine, a secondary diamine, a monohydroxyalkyl primary monoamine, a dihydroxyalkyl primary monoamine, a trihydroxyalkyl primary monoamine, a mono hydroxycycloalkyl primary monoamine, a dihydroxycycloalkyl primary monoamine, or a trihydroxycycloalkyl primary monoamine
A method to make a sulfonated epoxy resin polymer which comprises the steps of:
- (1) adding an excess or equivalent amount of an epoxide-containing compound and an equivalent or excess of a primary amino sulfonate,
- (2) optionally adding a primary monoamine alkylene oxide oligomer, another additive, a catalyst, and/or a solvent,
- (3) mixing the components to form a reaction mixture,
- and
- (4) reacting the reaction mixture at a temperature and time sufficient to provide a sulfonated epoxy resin polymer having an average molecular weight of from 300 and 100,000.
