Abstract
Compositions comprising a combination of myeloperoxidase and a peroxide-producing oxidase and methods of using the compositions to inactivate gram negative bacterial lipopolysaccharides and lipid A endotoxin are provided.
Claims20
A method of treating a human or animal subject having a gram-negative bacterial infection comprising administering to a site of the gram-negative bacterial infection in the subject a composition comprising myeloperoxidase and halide, wherein the composition inhibits lipopolysaccharide endotoxin activity of gram-negative bacteria.
A method of treating a human or animal subject having a bacterial infection comprising administering to a site of the bacterial infection in the subject a first composition comprising myeloperoxidase, a peroxide-producing oxidase, and at least three amino acids;
- and administering to the site of the bacterial infection in the subject a second composition comprising a substrate for the oxidase;
- wherein the first composition acts in combination with the second composition to inactivate a lipopolysaccharide endotoxin produced by the gram-negative bacteria.
