Claims24
An aqueous composition comprising a metal salt comprising one or more multivalent cations and a polymer having the structure of Formula 1:
- wherein:
- ε is the site of attachment to a carbon atom in the polymer backbone, side group, or side chain;
- R1 is selected from the group consisting of —H, metal salt having Na, K, or L1 cation, amine cation salt, and a structure of Formula 2:
- wherein:
- θ is the site of attachment to Formula 1,
- R4 and R5 are independently selected from the group consisting of —H, metal salt having Na, K, or L1 cation, and amine cation salt;
- R2 is selected from the group consisting of —H, metal salt having Na, K, or L1 cation, amine cation salt, and a structure of Formula 3:
- wherein:
- θ is the site of attachment to Formula 1,
- R6, and R7 are independently selected from the group consisting of —H, metal salt having Na, K, or L1 cation, and amine cation salt, and
- n is an integer from 1 to 22;
- and
- R3 is selected from the group consisting of —H, metal salt having Na, K, or L1 cation, and amine cation salt.
A method of inhibiting at least 10% precipitation of transition metal complexes which would otherwise be insoluble in an aqueous mixture from solutions by combining said solutions with a polymer comprising the structure of Formula 1:
- wherein:
- ε is the site of attachment to a carbon atom in the polymer backbone, side group, or side chain;
- R1 is selected from the group consisting of —H, metal salt having Na, K, or L1 cation, amine cation salt, and a structure of Formula 2:
- wherein:
- θ is the site of attachment to Formula 1,
- R4 and R5 are independently selected from the group consisting of —H, metal salt having Na, K, or L1 cation, and amine cation salt;
- R2 is selected from the group consisting of —H, metal salt having Na, K, or Li cation, amine cation salt, and a structure of Formula 3:
- wherein:
- θ is the site of attachment to Formula 1,
- R6, and R7 are independently selected from the group consisting of —H, metal salt having Na, K, or L1 cation, and amine cation salt, and
- n is an integer from 1 to 22;
- and
- R3 is selected from the group consisting of —H, metal salt having Na, K, or Li cation, and amine cation salt.
A method of making a stable aqueous metal salt composition, said method comprising the steps of:
- dissolving a metal salt comprising one or more multivalent cations in an aqueous solution comprising water to form an aqueous metal salt composition;
- and
- adding to said aqueous metal salt composition a polymer comprising the structure of Formula 1:
- wherein:
- ε is the site of attachment to a carbon atom in the polymer backbone, side group, or side chain;
- R1 is selected from the group consisting of —H, metal salt having Na, K, or L1 cation, amine cation salt, and a structure of Formula 2:
- wherein:
- θ is the site of attachment to Formula 1,
- R4 and R5 are independently selected from the group consisting of —H, metal salt having Na, K, or L1 cation, and amine cation salt;
- R2 is selected from the group consisting of —H, metal salt having Na, K, or Li cation, amine cation salt, and a structure of Formula 3:
- wherein:
- θ is the site of attachment to Formula 1,
- R6, and R7 are independently selected from the group consisting of —H, metal salt having Na, K, or L1 cation, and amine cation salt, and
- n is an integer from 1 to 22;
- and
- R3 is selected from the group consisting of —H, metal salt having Na, K, or Li cation, and amine cation salt.
