## Abstract

An electronic device for displaying service information is provided. The electronic device includes a short-range communication unit configured to connect the electronic device to an external device, and a controller configured to extract service information, provided by a service provider providing the external device, from an information message used for connection to the external device and to display the extracted service information, if the electronic device is connected to the external device via the short-range communication unit.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An electronic device comprising:
a Wi-Fi communication transceiver;
a memory configured to store instructions therein; and
at least one processor, upon executing the instructions, the at least one processor being configured to:
identify a touch input for turning on Wi-Fi,
in response to the touch input for turning on Wi-Fi, search for nearby Access Points (APs) via the Wi-Fi communication transceiver,
if an AP supporting Hotspot 2.0 is searched, request an information message for the AP from an information server connected to the AP,
in response to the requesting of the information message, receive the information message from the information server,
connect the electronic device with the AP using access information and authentication information included in the information message,
identify whether service information provided by a service provider that is associated with the AP is included in the information message, and
in response to the identifying of the service information, display, information associated with the service information after the electronic device is connected to the AP.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:
after the electronic device is connected to the AP, display information associated with the service information in response to receiving an input for displaying the service information.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:
identify at least one of a venue information format storing information about a venue where the AP is installed, and an operator information format storing information about an operator providing the AP, in the information message, and
if a separator indicating a presence of the service information is detected in at least one of the venue information format and the operator information format, extract information following the separator as service information or display information associated with the service information.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The electronic device of claim 3, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to determine the presence of the separator in at least one of a venue name field of the venue information format and an operator name field of the operator information format.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:
identify whether an additional service information format storing service information is present in a reserved field of the information message, and
if the additional service information format is detected in the reserved field, extract the service information from the additional service information format and display information associated with the service information.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the at least one processor is further configured, if the service information comprises image data, to:
display the image data as an icon, and
display the image data corresponding to the icon, if the icon is selected.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the at least one processor is further configured, if the service information extracted from the information message comprises a uniform resource locator (URL) address, to:
display the URL address, and
access the URL address if the URL address is selected.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The electronic device of claim 1, wherein, if the service information extracted from the information message comprises an address of a file to be downloaded, the at least one processor is further configured, to:
display the address of the file, and
if the address of the file is selected, access the address of the file and download the file.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The electronic device of claim 1, wherein, if the service information extracted from the information message comprises a character string, the at least one processor is further configured to display the character string.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The electronic device of claim 1, wherein, if the service information extracted from the information message comprises a phone number, the at least one processor is further configured to:
display the phone number, and
dial the phone number if the phone number is selected.

### Claim 11

A non-transitory storage medium storing instructions configured to cause, when executed by at least one processor of an electronic device, the at least one processor to perform at least one operation, the at least one operation comprising:
identifying a touch input for turning on Wi-Fi;
in response to the touch input for turning on Wi-Fi, searching for nearby Access Points (APs);
if an AP supporting Hotspot 2.0 is searched, requesting an information message for the AP from an information server connected to the AP;
in response to the requesting of the information message, receiving the information message from the information server;
connecting the electronic device with the AP using access information and authentication information included in the information message;
identifying whether service information provided by a service provider that is associated with the AP is included in the information message; and
in response to the identifying of the service information, displaying information associated with the service information after the electronic device is connected to the AP.
