## Abstract

An integrated active control system includes gaming devices, a server, and a network connecting the server and gaming devices. The gaming devices include gaming terminals and gaming tables. The integrated active control system aggregates gaming transaction information from the gaming devices and determines, for example, the effectiveness of the gaming establishment's floor configuration. Based on this effectiveness determination, at least one of the gaming devices are instructed to change their configuration. Staffing information may also be considered and reconfigured. The integrated active control system further monitors and configures gaming chips. The gaming chips are programmable, and may store monetary chip value and chip identification information. The programmable gaming chips are monitored for tracking the wagers made with the chips as well as for detecting their location.

## Claims

### Claim at position 1

1-27. (canceled)

### Claim 28

A gaming system comprising:
a processor; and
a memory device storing instructions, which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to at least:
determine that a user is located proximate to an electronic gaming machine;
communicate, in response to determining that the user is located proximate to the electronic gaming machine, player preference data related to the user to the electronic gaming machine; and
control a display device of the electronic gaming machine to display a message based on the player preference data.

### Claim 29 (depends on 28)

The gaming system of claim 28, wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the processor to determine that the user is located proximate the electronic gaming machine based on a receive communication from a communication device.

### Claim 30 (depends on 28)

The gaming system of claim 28, wherein the message displayed by the display device includes an advertisement.

### Claim 31 (depends on 28)

The gaming system of claim 28, wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, further cause the processor to receive, from a data acquisition device of the electronic gaming machine, data identifying the user, wherein the data acquisition device wirelessly acquires the data identifying the user from a communication device.

### Claim 32 (depends on 31)

The gaming system of claim 31, wherein the data acquisition device comprises a sensor configured to receive a wireless signal from the communication device, and wherein the communication device comprises a wireless transponder for wirelessly communicating with the sensor.

### Claim 33 (depends on 28)

The gaming system of claim 28, wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, further cause the processor to retrieve the player preference data from the memory device in response to determining that the user is located proximate to the electronic gaming machine.

### Claim 34 (depends on 28)

The gaming system of claim 28, wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, further cause the processor to control the display device of the electronic gaming machine to display an attract mode configured to attract attention of the user, wherein the attract mode is selected based upon the player preference data.

### Claim 35 (depends on 28)

The gaming system of claim 28, wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, further cause the processor to control the display device of the electronic gaming machine to display a recommendation of at least one game of a plurality of available games to the user, wherein the recommendation is based on the player preference data, and wherein the at least one game is selectable by the user.

### Claim 36 (depends on 28)

The gaming system of claim 28, wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, further cause the processor to reconfigure the electronic gaming machine in response to determining that the user is located proximate to the electronic gaming machine, wherein the reconfiguration is based upon the player preference data.

### Claim 37 (depends on 28)

The gaming system of claim 28, wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, further cause the processor to reconfigure one of a physical configuration, a display setting, or a game play setting of the electronic gaming machine in response to determining that the user is located proximate to the electronic gaming machine, wherein the reconfiguration is based upon the player preference data.

### Claim 38

A method for customizing a setting of an electronic gaming machine based upon a physical presence of a user near the electronic gaming machine, the method comprising:
determining, by a processor, that a user is located proximate to the electronic gaming machine;
communicating, by the processor and in response to determining that the user is located proximate the electronic gaming machine, player preference data related to the user to the electronic gaming machine; and
controlling, by the processor, a display device of the electronic gaming machine to display a message based on the player preference data.

### Claim 39 (depends on 38)

The method of claim 38, further comprising determining, by the processor, that the user is located proximate to the electronic gaming machine based on a receive communication from a communication device.

### Claim 40 (depends on 38)

The method of claim 38, wherein the message displayed by the display device includes an advertisement.

### Claim 41 (depends on 38)

The method of claim 38, further comprising receiving, by the processor and from a data acquisition device of the electronic gaming machine, data identifying the user, wherein the data acquisition device wirelessly acquires the data identifying the user from a communication device.

### Claim 42 (depends on 41)

The method of claim 41, wherein the data acquisition device comprises a sensor configured to receive a wireless signal from the communication device, and wherein the communication device comprises a wireless transponder for wirelessly communicating with the sensor.

### Claim 43 (depends on 38)

The method of claim 38, further comprising retrieving, by the processor, the player preference data from a memory device in response to determining that the user is located proximate to the electronic gaming machine.

### Claim 44 (depends on 38)

The method of claim 38, further comprising controlling, by the processor, the display device of the electronic gaming machine to display an attract mode configured to attract attention of the user, wherein the attract mode is selected based upon the player preference data.

### Claim 45 (depends on 38)

The method of claim 38, further comprising controlling, by the processor, the display device of the electronic gaming machine to display a recommendation of at least one game of a plurality of available games to the user, wherein the recommendation is based on the player preference data, and wherein the at least one game is selectable by the user.

### Claim 46 (depends on 38)

The method of claim 38, further comprising reconfiguring, by the processor, the electronic gaming machine in response to determining that the user is located proximate to the electronic gaming machine, wherein the reconfiguration is based upon the player preference data.

### Claim 47

A gaming system comprising:
