## Abstract

An electronic device with a touch-sensitive display displays a user interface with content. The device detects a gesture on the touch-sensitive display, the gesture including a first contact over the content on the touch-sensitive display and movement of the first contact across the touch-sensitive display. In response to detecting the gesture, when the contact does not meet selection criteria, the device scrolls the content on the display in accordance with the movement of the contact on the display without selecting the content. When the contact meets the selection criteria, the device selects at least a portion of the content in accordance with the movement of the contact.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing one or more programs, the one or more programs comprising instructions, which when executed by an electronic device with a touch-sensitive display, cause the device to:
display a user interface on the touch-sensitive display, wherein the user interface includes content;
detect a first portion of a gesture over the content on the touch-sensitive display, the first portion of the gesture including:
a first contact on the touch-sensitive display; and
movement of the first contact across the touch-sensitive display;
in response to detecting the first portion of the gesture, update the user interface in accordance with the first portion of the gesture, including:
in accordance with a determination that the first contact does not meet selection criteria during the first portion of the gesture, scrolling the content on the touch-sensitive display in accordance with the movement of the first contact on the touch-sensitive display during the first portion of the gesture without selecting the content; and
in accordance with a determination that the first contact meets the selection criteria during the first portion of the gesture, selecting at least a portion of the content in accordance with the movement of the first contact on the touch-sensitive display during the first portion of the gesture; and
after updating user interface in accordance with the first portion of the gesture, detect a second portion of the gesture that includes detecting movement of the first contact on the touch-sensitive display while the first contact does not meet the selection criteria; and,
in response to detecting the second portion of the gesture:
in accordance with a determination that the first contact did not meet the selection criteria during the first portion of the gesture, scroll the content on the touch-sensitive display in accordance with movement of the first contact on the touch-sensitive display during the second portion of the gesture without selecting the content; and
in accordance with a determination that the first contact met the selection criteria during the first portion of the gesture, adjust the selection in accordance with movement of the first contact on the touch-sensitive display during the second portion of the gesture.
