## Abstract

A method for actuating the vibration damper of a transportation vehicle wheel suspension including generating data which represents the topography of the roadway lying in front of the transportation vehicle; analyzing the data with respect to roadway unevenness; adjusting the vibration damper while taking into consideration the evaluation of the roadway unevenness, wherein the amplitude spectrum of the roadway unevenness is ascertained from the data; and generating a specification for the damping of the vibration damper based on the amplitude spectrum.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for actuating a vibration damper of a transportation vehicle wheel suspension, the method comprising:
generating data representing topography of a road ahead of the motor transportation vehicle;
analyzing the data with regard to road unevenness; and
adjusting the vibration damper while taking into account the analysis of the road unevenness,
wherein the analysis includes determining an amplitude spectrum of the road unevenness from the data, and
wherein a specification for the damping of the vibration damper is produced as a function of the amplitude spectrum.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein a weighted amplitude is determined from the amplitude spectrum and the specification for damping of the vibration damper is carried out as a function of the determined weighted amplitude.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, wherein only frequencies above a natural frequency of the body of the transportation vehicle are considered during the weighting.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the amplitudes in a limited range about a natural frequency of the body and the amplitudes outside the region of the natural frequency of the body are compared for the specification of the damping, and
wherein the damping is increased in the region of the natural frequency of the body at greater amplitudes, whereas the damping is reduced in the region of the natural frequency of the body at smaller amplitudes.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the amplitudes in a limited range about a natural frequency of the wheels and the amplitudes outside the region of the natural frequency of the wheels are compared for the specification of the damping, and
wherein the damping is increased at greater amplitudes in the region of the natural frequency of the wheel, whereas the damping is reduced at smaller amplitudes in the region of the natural frequency of the wheel.

### Claim 6 (depends on 4)

The method of claim 4, wherein a characteristic field for the damping is specified, which uses two input variables that are stimulations at the natural frequency and away from the natural frequency.

### Claim 7 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, wherein the vertical movement of the transportation vehicle body is detected and a specification for the damping of the vibration damper is produced while taking into account said vertical movement, and
the specification from the vertical movement and the specification from the analysis of the road unevenness are weighted relative to each other depending on the driving situation and the damping of the vibration damper is adjusted as a function of the weighting.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7, wherein the specification from the analysis of the road unevenness is more heavily weighted than the specification from the vertical movement in a driving situation with large road unevenness and small vertical movement of the transportation vehicle body.

### Claim 9 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, further comprising determining a weighted road stimulus that is an unevenness value determined such that stimulations away from the resonant frequencies are positively weighted and stimulations at the resonant frequency are negatively weighted, and wherein the damping is adjusted inversely relative to the unevenness value.
