Method and device for saving power for terminal

A method by a base station in a wireless communication system, comprising:

• receiving a random access preamble from a terminal;
• transmitting a random access response based on the random access preamble to the terminal;
• and
• receiving a radio resource control (RRC) resume request message from the terminals, and
• wherein the RRC resume request message includes information on the cause of the RRC connection resume, and
• wherein the information on the cause of the RRC connection resume corresponds to one of an area update and a traffic transmission.

A base station operating in a wireless communication system, the base station comprising:

• a transceiver;
• and
• a controller coupled with the transceiver and configured to receive a random access preamble from a terminal, transmit a random access response based on the random access preamble to the terminal, and receive a radio resource control (RRC) resume request message from the terminal,
• wherein the RRC resume request message includes information on the cause of the RRC connection resume, and
• wherein the information on the cause of the RRC connection resume corresponds to one of an area update and a traffic transmission.
