Home monitoring method and apparatus

A robot cleaner for transmitting a warning message to at least one electronic device, the robot cleaner comprising:

• at least one sensor including at least one camera;
• a communicator configured to transmit and receive messages;
• and
• a controller configured to:
• receive first information on a patrol path between a docking position of the robot cleaner and a position to be monitored,
• receive second information for adjusting a direction of the at least one camera of the robot cleaner of the position to be monitored,
• move along the patrol path from the docking position of the robot cleaner to the position to be monitored based on a security mode being executed,
• receive, by using the at least one camera of the robot cleaner, at least one image of the position to be monitored,
• obtain third information by the at least one sensor,
• determine whether a predetermined condition is satisfied based on the obtained third information,
• transmit the warning message to the at least one electronic device based on determining that the predetermined condition is satisfied, and
• transmit an image corresponding to the at least one image to the at least one electronic device.

A method for monitoring a space of a building, the method comprising:

• receiving, by a robot cleaner, a first command to transit from a charging station to a target position, the first command received from at least one mobile device;
• receiving, by the robot cleaner, a second command from the at least one mobile device, the second command adjusting a direction of the robot cleaner, to have at least one sensor of the robot cleaner monitor an area of the target position;
• detecting, by the at least one sensor of the robot cleaner, a movement in the area at the target position;
• recording, by at least one camera of the robot cleaner, an image of the area of the target position in response to the detection of the movement;
• and
• transmitting, by the robot cleaner, the image to the at least one mobile device.
