Abstract
Approaches for monitoring performance in a networked environment are provided. An approach includes monitoring, using a first metric, performance of a first host running a virtual machine. The approach also includes determining, using a computer device, a second metric based on the virtual machine being migrated from the first host to a second host, wherein the second metric is a function of: (i) the first metric and (ii) a comparison of the first host and the second host. The approach further includes monitoring, using the second metric, performance of the second host running the virtual machine.
Claims14
A system for monitoring performance in a networked environment, comprising:
- a hardware CPU, a hardware computer readable memory and a hardware computer readable storage medium;
- and
- program instructions to automatically adjust, by the hardware computer device, a monitoring threshold based on a virtual machine being migrated from a first host to a second host,
- wherein the adjusting comprises:
- determining a multiplier based on a comparison of the first host to the second host;
- and
- determining an adjusted monitoring threshold by multiplying an initial monitoring threshold used with the first host by the multiplier.
A system for monitoring performance in a networked environment, comprising:
- a hardware CPU, a hardware computer readable memory and a hardware computer readable storage medium;
- and
- program instructions to automatically adjust, by the hardware computer device, a monitoring threshold based on a virtual machine being migrated from a first host to a second host, wherein the adjusting comprises determining a multiplier based on a comparison of the first host to the second host,
- program instructions to monitor, using a first metric, performance of the first host running the virtual machine;
- program instructions to determine, using the hardware computer device, a second metric based on the virtual machine being migrated from the first host to the second host,
- wherein:
- the first metric is a first threshold value associated with a performance aspect of the virtual machine;
- and
- the determining the second metric comprises:
- determining a multiplier based on a comparison of performance characteristics of the first host and performance characteristics of the second host;
- and
- multiplying the first threshold value by the multiplier.
