System and method to determining efficiency of a smart appliance and providing feedback based of efficiencies of similar smart appliances in a smart grid network

A method for determining the efficiency of a smart appliance in a smart grid network, comprising:

• providing a central controller in digital communication with a network component of a smart grid, the smart grid comprising one or more units with one or more utilities in digital communication with the central controller;
• determining, via the, central controller, a first utility and a second utility associated with an ADL;
• determining, via the central controller, a power consumption profile for each of the first utility and the second utility associated with the ADL;
• defining a maintenance threshold where the second utility has a power consumption profile that is more power consuming than the power consumption profile of the first utility;
• and
• transmitting a signal to a user interface, via the central controller, indicating that the maintenance threshold has been reached.

A computer program product for determining the efficiency of a smart appliance in a smart grid network, the computer program comprising a computer readable storage medium having program instructions embodied therewith, wherein the computer readable storage medium is not a transitory signal per se, the program instructions are readable by a computer to cause the computer to perform a method comprising the steps of:

• attributing a first appliance in a smart grid network to an ADL;
• wherein in a first operating position, the first appliance is consuming energy below a maintenance threshold and in a second operating position, the first appliance is consuming energy above a maintenance threshold;
• receiving historical data and appliance meta data from the first appliance;
• determining, based at least in part on the historical data and appliance meta data if the first appliance is the second operating position;
• and
• transmitting a signal to a user interface indicating that the first appliance is in the second operating position.

The computer program product of claim 16, further comprising the steps of:

• attributing a second appliance in a smart grid network to the ADL;
• assigning a first efficiency value to the first appliance and a second efficiency value to the second appliance;
• and
• comparing the first efficiency value and the second efficiency value.
