Abstract
Full color displays that include optical thin film layers with a controllable reflectance are provided. The layers allow for the overall transparency and display properties of each side of the display to be controlled, allowing for augmented reality displays virtual reality displays, two-sided signage, and the like.
Claims20
A device comprising:
- a first substrate;
- a light-emitting diode (LED) disposed over the substrate;
- and
- a first controllable-reflectance optical thin film layer disposed in a stack with the LED and in optical communication with the LED, the first controllable-reflectance optical thin film layer having a reflectivity controllable by an electrical signal provided by a first controller, wherein the first controllable-reflectance optical thin film layer is at least 40% reflective in a most reflective state and at least 40% transmissive in its most transmissive state.

A device comprising:
- a plurality of rows of pixels, each pixel comprising:
- one or more LEDs, each LED comprising:
- a first electrode;
- an organic emissive layer;
- a first controllable-reflectance optical thin film layer disposed between the first electrode and the organic emissive layer;
- and
- a second electrode;
- and
- a controller configured to adjust the reflectivity and/or transmission of each controllable-reflectance optical thin film layer in the device.
