Methods and systems for selecting and presenting content on a first system based on user preferences learned on a second system

A networked learning system for determining a presentation of content items that are selected based, at least in part, on content preferences learned during interactions with the networked learning system, the networked learning system comprising:

• a user device having a display and operably coupled to a computer network;
• a third-party service provider configured to provide a second content system to a user of the user device over the computer network, the second content system providing a second set of content items, each content item having a descriptive term;
• a personal preference information service in communication with the third-party service provider over the computer network, the personal preference information service configured to:
• receive one or more descriptive terms associated with the second set of content items;
• analyze the one or more descriptive terms to learn the content preferences for the user;
• and
• determine a subset of learned content preferences that is relevant to a first set of content items;
• and
• a first content system in communication with the personal preference information service over the computer network and configured to cause a display of at least one item of the first set of content items on the display of the user device, the at least one item selected and ordered based on the subset of learned content preferences.

A first content system of a networked learning system for displaying content items in accordance with content preferences learned from user interactions with the networked learning system, the first content system configured to:

• communicate with a personal preference information service to obtain content related to a subset of learned content preferences, the personal preference information service configured to:
• receive one or more descriptive terms associated with a second set of content items that is presented by a second content system to a first user device that is in communication with a third-party service provider over a computer network;
• analyze the one or more descriptive terms to learn the content preferences associated with the first user device;
• and
• determine the subset of learned content preferences that is relevant to a first set of content items of the first content system;
• and
• cause a display of at least one item of the first set of content items on a second user device, the at least one item selected and ordered based on the subset of learned content preferences.

A personal preference information service of a networked learning system for determining a presentation of content items that are selected in accordance with content preferences learned during a user's interactions with the networked learning system, the personal preference information service configured to:

• receive one or more descriptive terms associated with a second set of content items, the second set of content items provided by a second content system to a user of a user device over a computer network;
• analyze the one or more descriptive terms to learn the content preferences for the user;
• determine a subset of learned content preferences that is relevant to a first set of content items;
• and
• interface with a first content system over the computer network to cause a display of at least one item of the first set of content items on the user device, the at least one item selected and ordered based on the subset of learned content preferences.
