Electronic device and method for controlling the same

An electronic device comprising:

• a communication unit configured to perform communication with an external server storing a plurality of contents;
• an output unit configured to output content based on a user control command;
• and
• a controller configured to:
• transmit user information to the external server via the communication unit, wherein the user information comprises at least an output capability of the electronic device;
• receive a specific content of the stored plurality of contents from the server via the communication unit based on the user information;
• and
• output the received specific content via the output unit,
• wherein a stored format of the specific content is converted to an output format corresponding to an output capability of the electronic device when it is determined, based on the user information, that the electronic device is not capable of outputting the stored format of the specific content.
