Abstract
An imaging device having a controller, a raster image processor and a print engine including methods for reducing wear in one or more components of the imaging device, the print engine including instructions for receiving a start command indicating receipt of a print job, determining whether a previous print job is processed successfully following receipt of the print job, and upon a negative determination, waiting for a print command prior processing each page of the print job to adjust a default printing performance of the imaging device and to reduce component wear in the imaging device as a result of adjusting the printing performance.
Claims20
A method for reducing component wear in an imaging device, comprising:
- by a print engine of the imaging device, receiving a start command indicating receipt of a print job;
- determining whether a previous print job is processed successfully following receipt of the print job;
- and
- upon a negative determination, waiting for a print command prior processing each page of the print job to adjust a default printing performance of the imaging device and to reduce component wear in the imaging device as a result of adjusting the printing performance.
A method for reducing component wear in the imaging device, comprising:
- receiving a rasterized image for each page of a print job;
- detecting that the rasterized image corresponds to a last page of the print job;
- printing the rasterized image;
- following the detecting, determining whether a print job processed prior the print job is processed successfully;
- and
- upon a negative determination, stopping a print engine of the imaging device and transitioning the imaging device to an idle state to adjust a default printing performance of the imaging device and to reduce component wear in the imaging device as a result of adjusting the printing performance.
An imaging device including a method for reducing wear in an imaging component, comprising:
- a controller having an associated memory, the memory including a set of functions for achieving a default printing performance of the imaging device, the set of functions including an advanced start function and a run-out function;
- a raster image processor for generating a rasterized image for a print job page;
- and
- a print engine for outputting the rasterized image onto a media sheet passed through the imaging device,
- wherein the print engine includes instructions to:
- determine prior printing the print job whether slow image generation is experienced in processing a previous print job and to disable the advanced start function upon a positive determination;
- determine whether the rasterized image is received by the print engine past a predetermined timeout and to disable the set of functions in the imaging device upon a positive determination;
- and
- determine whether slow image generation is experienced in processing a previous print job following a determination that there are no rasterized images for printing by the print engine and to disable the run-out function upon a positive determination,
- wherein the instructions from the print engine to disable at least one of the advanced start function and the run-out function in the imaging device adjusts the default printing performance of the imaging device to reduce wear in the imaging component.
