A leak detection system including a sensor having a first state having a first condition when dry and a second condition when wet, and a second state adapted to monitor the operability of the sensor; a communication device operatively connected to the sensor; and an attachment element adapted to attach the leak detection system to a fluid component for monitoring fluid leakage.

A leak detection system comprising:
- a sensor having a first state comprising a first condition when dry and a second condition when wet, and a second state adapted to monitor the operability of the sensor;
- a communication device operatively connected to the sensor;
- and
- an attachment element adapted to attach the leak detection system to a fluid component for monitoring fluid leakage.
