Abstract
Novel red methine dyes, methods for the preparation thereof, and use thereof for dyeing plastics, especially vinyl polymers, provide red colourings with improved colour strengths and improved colour brilliance.

A dye of the formula (I)
- wherein:
- R1 is hydrogen, halogen, COOH or COOR7,
- R2 is hydrogen, CF3 or alkyl,
- R3 is hydrogen, halogen, COOH, COOR8 or CN,
- R4 is alkyl or phenyl,
- R5 and R6 are each independently alkyl, and
- R7 and R8 are each independently alkyl.
