Abstract
The disclosure concerns polycarbonate blends polycarbonate blend comprising (i) about 50 wt % to about 98 wt % of one or more polycarbonates produced by a melt polymerization process; (ii) about 2 wt % to about 50 wt % of a polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer with a siloxane content of 10 wt % to 40 wt % based on the total weight of the polycarbonate-polysiloxane, in an amount effective to provide a total siloxane content of 0.5 wt % to 10 wt % based on the total weight of the blend.
Claims24
A polycarbonate blend comprising:
- about 50 wt % to about 98 wt % of one or more polycarbonates, based on the total weight of the polycarbonate blend, produced by a melt polymerization process;
- and
- about 2 wt % to 50 wt % of a polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer, based on the total weight of the polycarbonate blend, with a siloxane content of about 10 wt % to about 40 wt % based on the total weight of the polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer, in an amount effective to provide a total siloxane content of about 0.5 wt % to about 10 wt % based on the total weight of the polycarbonate blend,
- wherein the polycarbonate blend has a release from mold ejection force that is at least about 10% less than a substantially similar reference blend of one or more polycarbonates produced by an interfacial polymerization process.
A polycarbonate blend comprising:
- about 50 wt % to about 98 wt % of one or more polycarbonates, based on the total weight of the polycarbonate blend, produced by a melt polymerization process;
- and
- about 2 wt % to about 50 wt % of a polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer, based on the total weight of the polycarbonate blend, with a siloxane content of about 10 wt % to about 40 wt % based on the total weight of the polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer, in an amount effective to provide a total siloxane content of about 0.5 wt % to about 10 wt % based on the total weight of the polycarbonate blend,
- wherein the polycarbonate blend has a release from mold coefficient of friction that is at least about 10% less than a substantially similar reference blend including only of one or more polycarbonates produced by an interfacial polymerization process.

A method of forming a molded article, the method comprising:
- injecting a polycarbonate blend into a mold to form the molded article;
- and
- releasing the molded article from the mold,
- wherein the polycarbonate blend comprises:
- about 50 wt % to about 98 wt % of one or more polycarbonates, based on the total weight of the polycarbonate blend, produced by a melt polymerization process, and
- about 2 wt % to about 50 wt % of a polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer, based on the total weight of the polycarbonate blend, with a siloxane content of about 10 wt % to about 40 wt % based on the total weight of the polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer, in an amount effective to provide a total siloxane content of about 0.5 wt % to about 10 wt % based on the total weight of the blend,
- wherein the polycarbonate blend has a release from mold ejection force that is at least about 10% less than a substantially similar reference blend of one or more polycarbonates produced by an interfacial polymerization process.
