The present invention relates to a composition for the modulation of the activity of non-structure proteins and a compound contained therein.

A method for the preservation and fixation of protein-containing subject-matter, comprising the step of contacting said subject-matter with a composition comprising a 5-oxo-pyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid derivative of the formula I

- R1 is selected from the group consisting of:
- linear alkyl residue with C1-C6,
- R2 and R3 are each independent from each other selected from the group consisting of:
- H, XH,
- with each:
- n=0-20,
- m=1-25, and
- X=O or S.
A composition for the preservation and fixation of protein-containing subject-matter comprising as a preservation and fixation agent 5-oxo-pyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid derivative of the formula I
