Abstract
A component for an electronic device including an internal compressive stress region is disclosed herein. The internal compressive stress region may be created in a glass portion of the component or in a glass ceramic portion of the component. Electronic devices comprising the components and method for making the components are also disclosed.
Claims20
A strengthened glass component for an electronic device, comprising:
- a first external surface defining at least a portion of an exterior of the electronic device;
- a first external compressive stress region along the first external surface;
- a first internal tensile stress region inward from the first external compressive stress region;
- an internal compressive stress region inward from the first internal tensile stress region;
- a second external surface opposite to the first external surface;
- a second external compressive stress region along the second external surface;
- and
- a second internal tensile stress region inward from the second external compressive stress region.
A glass component for an electronic device, the glass component comprising:
- a surface defining at least a portion of an exterior of the electronic device;
- an external compressive stress region extending from the surface to a first depth into the glass component;
- an internal tensile stress region extending from the first depth to a second depth into the glass component;
- and
- an internal compressive stress region extending from the second depth to a third depth into the glass component.
A method of strengthening a glass component for an electronic device, the method comprising:
- forming an external compressive stress region extending from a surface of the glass component to a first depth into the glass component;
- forming an internal tensile stress region extending from the first depth to a second depth into the glass component;
- and
- forming an internal compressive stress region extending from the second depth to a third depth into the glass component.
