Abstract
Exemplary method and apparatus embodiments of this application can obtain a digital model of an individual intraoral dentition and perform tooth surface restoration after brace representation removal that includes wires and brackets.
Claims12
A method for generating a digital model of reconstructed dentition from a digital model of a patient's dentition, the method comprising:
- obtaining a 3-D digital mesh model of the patient's dentition including braces, teeth, and gingival;
- modifying the 3-D digital mesh dentition model by removing wire portions of the braces therefrom;
- modifying the 3-D digital mesh dentition model by removing bracket portions of the braces therefrom;
- reconstructing teeth surfaces of the modified 3-D digital mesh dentition model previously covered by the wire portions and the bracket portions of the braces;
- and
- displaying, storing, or transmitting over a network to another computer, the reconstructed 3-D digital mesh dentition model.
A computer-implemented method for generating a digital model of reconstructed dentition from a digital model of a patient's dentition, the method comprising:
- obtaining a first 3-D digital mesh dentition model including braces, teeth, and gingival;
- generating a second 3-D digital mesh dentition model by removing wire portions of the braces from the first 3-D digital mesh dentition model;
- generating a third 3-D digital mesh dentition model by removing bracket portions of the braces from the second 3-D digital mesh dentition model;
- reconstructing teeth surfaces of the third 3-D digital mesh dentition model previously covered by the wire portions and the bracket portions of the braces;
- and
- displaying, transmitting, or storing the reconstructed 3-D digital mesh dentition model.
An apparatus configured to generate a digital model of dentition, comprising:
- means for obtaining a 3-D digital mesh model of the patient's dentition including braces, teeth, and gingival;
- means for modifying the 3-D digital mesh dentition model by removing wire portions of the braces therefrom;
- means for modifying the 3-D digital mesh dentition model by removing bracket portions of the braces therefrom;
- means for reconstructing teeth surfaces of the modified 3-D digital mesh dentition model previously covered by the wire portions and the bracket portions of the braces;
- and
- means for displaying, storing, or transmitting over a network to another computer, the reconstructed 3-D digital mesh dentition model.
