Abstract
An electronic display where various electrical components may be removed from a housing of the display and serviced or replaced without having to demount the display. The electronic display may include an electronic image-producing assembly in electrical communication with a backplane. Various electrical components (e.g., electronic assemblies) may be removably connected to the backplane using self-guiding electrical connectors. An access opening through a wall of the housing may be provided to facilitate removal of an electrical assembly through the housing while the display remains mounted to a vertical surface.
Claims20
An electronic display comprising:
- a housing;
- an electronic display assembly located within the housing and viewable through a forward opening along the front of the housing;
- a backplane located within the housing, the backplane located rearward of the electronic display assembly and in electrical communication therewith, the backplane having, including at least one electrical edge connector, an AC power input, a video signal input, and at least one data interface connection;
- at least one access opening through a side wall of the housing, the at least one access opening located to be in substantial alignment with the at least one edge connector on the backplane;
- and
- at least one removable electronic component passing through the at least one access opening in the side wall of the housing and in electrical communication with the backplane through releasable engagement with the electrical edge connector on the backplane.
An electronic display comprising:
- a housing having a front, a back, and a plurality of side walls;
- an electronic display assembly located within the housing and viewable through an opening in the front of the housing;
- a backplane located within the housing, the backplane located rearward of the electronic display assembly and in electrical communication therewith, the backplane having various fixed electronic components for operating the electronic display assembly, including at least one electrical edge connector, an AC power input, a video signal input, and at least one data interface connection, the various electronic components in permanent electrical communication with the electronic display assembly through the backplane;
- at least one access opening through a side wall of the housing, the at least one access opening located to be in substantial alignment with the at least one edge connector on the backplane;
- and
- at least one removable electronic component passing through the at least one access opening in the side wall of the housing, the at least one removable electronic component having a self-aligning electrical edge connector and in electrical communication with the backplane through releasable engagement of the electronic component and backplane electrical edge connectors.
An electronic display comprising:
- a housing having a front, a back, and a plurality of side walls;
- an electronic display assembly located within the housing, the electronic display assembly being a LCD display and comprising a display panel viewable through the opening in the front of the housing, a LCD assembly located rearward of the display panel, and a backlight located rearward of the LCD assembly;
- a backplane located within the housing and rearward of the backlight, the backplane in electrical communication with the LCD display and having various fixed electronic components for operating the electronic display assembly, including at least one self-aligning electrical edge connector, an AC power input, a video signal input, and at least one data interface connection, the various electronic components in permanent electrical communication with the LCD display through the backplane;
- at least one access opening through a side wall of the housing, the at least one access opening located to be in substantial alignment with the at least one edge connector on the backplane;
- and
- a timing and control board with an integrated analog-to-digital converter passing through the at least one access opening in the side wall of the housing, the timing and control board having a self-aligning electrical edge connector and in electrical communication with the backplane through releasable engagement of the edge connectors on the timing and control board and the backplane.
