Abstract
Systems and methods for calibrating a conducted electrical weapon (“CEW”) to provide a predetermined amount of current for each pulse of the stimulus signal. Providing the predetermined amount of current, close thereto, increases the effectiveness of the stimulus signal in impeding locomotion of a human or animal target. The calibration process enables a CEW to calibrate the amount of charge in a pulse of the stimulus signal in the environmental conditions where the tester operates and also in the field where the environmental conditions may be different from the environmental conditions during calibration.
Claims18
A method performed by a handle of a conducted electrical weapon (“CEW”) and a tester for communicating with each other, the method comprising:
- sending, performed by the handle, a test request to the tester, the test request includes a test type;
- in response to receiving the test request, setting, performed by the tester, a circuit of the tester to receive a test signal of the test type;
- in response to initializing the circuit, sending, performed by the tester, a ready signal to the handle;
- in response to receiving the ready signal, sending, performed by the handle, the test signal of the test type to the tester;
- after sending the test signal of the test type, sending, performed by the handle, a test result request to the tester;
- in response to receiving the test result request, sending, performed by the tester, a test result to the handle;
- and
- responsive to receiving the test result, sending, performed by the handle, a test end signal to the tester.
A handle of a conducted electrical weapon (“CEW”), the handle for communicating with a tester to perform a test, the handle comprising:
- a processing circuit;
- a stimulus generator;
- and
- a launch generator;
- wherein:
- the processing circuit sends a test request to the tester, the test request includes a test type;
- in response to sending the test request, the processing circuit receives a ready signal from the tester;
- in response to receiving the ready signal, one of the stimulus generator and the launch generator sends a test signal of the test type to the tester;
- in response to sending the test signal, the processing circuit sends a test result request to the tester;
- and
- in response to sending the test result request, the processing circuit receives a test result, the test result includes at least one characteristic of the test signal, the at least one characteristic measured by the tester.
A method performed by a handle of a conducted electrical weapon (“CEW”) and a tester for communicating with each other, the method comprising:
- sending, performed by the handle, a test request to the tester, the test request includes a test type for a stimulus signal test;
- in response to receiving the test request, setting, performed by the tester, a circuit of the tester to receive the stimulus signal;
- after setting the circuit, sending, performed by the tester, a ready signal to the handle;
- in response to receiving the ready signal, sending, performed by a stimulus generator of the handle, the stimulus signal to the tester;
- and
- after sending the stimulus signal to the tester, receiving, performed by the handle, a test result from the tester, the test result includes an amount of current delivered by the stimulus signal, the amount of current measured by the tester.
