Abstract
A method for a database system includes storing table data for a database, the table data including information in rows and columns of one or more database tables. The method includes storing metadata on immutable storage, the metadata including information about the table data for the database. In one embodiment, mutable metadata may be periodically consolidated in the background to create new versions of metadata files and which allows for deletions of old metadata files and old data files.

A database system comprising:
- means for storing table data for a database, the table data comprising information in rows and columns of one or more database tables;
- and
- means for storing metadata on immutable storage, the metadata comprising information about the table data for the database, wherein storing the metadata comprises storing an indication of added or deleted table data files, storing one or more of a file name and a storage location for one or more table data files.
A method comprising:
- storing table data for a database, the table data comprising information in rows and columns of one or more database tables;
- and
- storing metadata on immutable storage, the metadata comprising information about the table data for the database.
A database system, the system comprising:
- a table data component configured to store table data for a database, the table data comprising information in rows and columns of one or more database tables;
- and
- a metadata component configured to store metadata on immutable storage, the metadata comprising information about the table data for the database, wherein storing the metadata comprises storing an indication of added or deleted table data files, storing one or more of a file name and a storage location for one or more table data files.
Computer readable storage media storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the processors to:
- store table data for a database, the table data comprising information in rows and columns of one or more database tables;
- and
- store metadata on immutable storage, the metadata comprising information about the table data for the database.
