Spinal fusion cage system with inserter

A surgical system comprising:

• a) a fusion cage composed of non-bone material having opposing anterior and posterior surfaces, opposing first and second lateral surfaces, and opposing top and bottom surfaces, wherein the top surface comprises a first aperture and the bottom surface comprises a second aperture, said posterior surface comprising a third aperture said first, second, and third apertures all linking to a main cavity, said main cavity generally extending between said top surface and said bottom surface for allowing boney in-growth to form in a disc space between two or more vertebrae;
• and
• b) an elongated shaft comprising a first portion and a second portion, said second portion of said shaft having a fusion cage attachment end such that when the fusion cage is attached to said second portion, said shaft can be moved to insert said fusion cage between the vertebrae;
• wherein said elongated shaft has an integral, fixed, non-adjustable angle between said first portion and said second portion, said angle being within the range of 5 to 45°;
• and
• c) wherein said fusion cage attachment has an annular lip, said annular lip providing a point of contact for the fusion cage such that when the fusion cage is held in place, the fusion cage contacts the annular lip;
• wherein said annular lip comprises at least one means for engaging with the fusion cage to stabilize the fusion cage in a manner that prevents rotation of the fusion cage.
