Abstract
A whitening composition for fabric, in particular, unbleached cellulosic fiber-containing fabric. The composition includes a blue dye, a violet dye; and, optionally, a thickening agent; wherein the composition is free of bleaching agents and optical brighteners. A method of whitening a fabric using whitening compositions is also disclosed.

A whitening composition for cellulosic-containing fabric, the composition comprising:
- a blue dye;
- a violet dye;
- and
- optionally, a thickening agent,
- wherein the composition is free of bleaching agents and optical brighteners.

A method for whitening a fabric, the method comprising the steps of:
- providing a fabric comprising cellulosic fiber;
- and
- applying a whitening composition to the fabric, the whitening composition comprising a blue dye and a violet dye,
- wherein the method is free of a bleaching step and the composition is free of a bleaching agent and optical brighteners.
