Abstract
A process and assembly for producing a structural article, as well as an article produced according to any process and assembly. A mold has a base and a hinged lid, either or both of which include a cavity interior which defines a negative of the structural article to be produced. A structural insert placed within the mold, prior or subsequent to a plasticized and structural forming foam material also being placed within the mold. The foam cures and sets in encapsulating fashion around the insert so that, upon removal, the insert is coated within the formed material.
Claims20
An assembly for producing a structural article, comprising:
- a mold having a base and a hinged lid;
- at least said base including a cavity interior which defines a negative of the structural article to be produced;
- a structural insert placed within said mold;
- a plasticized and structural forming foam material placed within said mold either prior or subsequent to insertion of the insert;
- and
- the foam curing and setting in encapsulating fashion around the insert so that, upon removal, the insert is coated within the formed material.
A mold assembly for producing a structural article, comprising:
- a book mold including a base and a hingedly connected lid;
- a structural insert positioned within a recessed interior defined between said base and lid prior to closing said book mold, said insert including an arrangement of materials defining a frame of the structural article;
- an expandable polymer in either liquid or powder form introduced into said closed book mold;
- and
- any of a heat, vibratory or rotating input applied to said book mold in order to evenly distribute and cure said expandable polymer in order to form the structural article.
